Maremma is an area of Tuscany that is only now beginning to receive the attention it deserves from international tourism. Governed for centuries by noble families often in conflict with one another, Maremma developed into many small, distinct communities.
Officially, Maremma largely corresponds to the Province of Grosseto, yet locals strongly identify with their own towns and villages, showing a deep and proud attachment to these historic places.
For visitors, this translates into an extraordinary wealth of traditions, landscapes, and cultural heritage to explore within just a few kilometres. If you are wondering what to see in Maremma, this 5-day itinerary will help you discover some of the region’s most fascinating destinations.

Easily reachable by train from across Italy, Grosseto is the most important city in Maremma. While it can sometimes feel lively and busy, it reveals its true charm when you leave the main streets and wander through the alleys of the historic centre, where you will find characteristic boutiques and traditional trattorias.
After spending the morning exploring Grosseto’s old town, with its magnificent Cathedral and intriguing archaeological museums, we recommend renting a car and setting off to discover the surrounding landscape.
Grosseto lies close to the largest natural park in Maremma, the Parco dell’Uccellina. Here you can choose from various nature trails or simply relax on the beach before returning for the night.
Before leaving, do not miss the iconic Maremman cattle and the traditional Butteri.

At least two days would be needed to fully appreciate the Fiora Valley, so set off early in the morning towards Manciano. This village is renowned for the spectacular view from the tower of the Rocca Aldobrandesca.
After lunch at one of Manciano’s excellent restaurants, continue to Montemerano, recently listed among “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.” Montemerano is a treasure of medieval art and architecture; be sure to visit the Church of San Giorgio, home to remarkable frescoes.
The third day is entirely dedicated to the Terme di Saturnia. You may choose to relax in the warm thermal waters of the Cascate del Mulino, which are free to access, or enjoy a more exclusive spa experience at the thermal centre.

Refreshed and relaxed, it is time to discover the Maremma coastline. This area is home to many beautiful beaches and seaside towns.
Orbetello, the lagoon town, offers charming views, distinctive shops, and a privileged position close to Monte Argentario.
Continue towards Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole, and do not miss the beaches along the panoramic coastal road. The Acqua Dolce beach, just outside Porto Ercole, is a favourite among locals.

Your final day in Maremma is free. You may return towards Grosseto and stop in Castiglione della Pescaia, a beautiful seaside town known for the famous Rocchette beach.
Alternatively, head inland to visit Massa Marittima, one of Maremma’s gems, celebrated for its cathedral and museums.
Or explore the Fiora Valley and discover Sorano, Sovana, and Pitigliano — extraordinary Etruscan villages carved into the rock.
